Application deadline and ad validity: two different things

Education 17.08.2026

When publishing an ad you enter two dates. They look similar but do entirely different things — and confusing them is the most common reason a good ad receives no applications.

Application deadline

Until when a candidate can apply. This date is printed in the ad and the candidate sees it. Once it passes, the ad stays on the site but tells the candidate that applications are closed.

Ad validity

How long the ad stays on the portal. This date controls when the ad is marked as expired. It remains visible — only you or an administrator can delete it.

Why the difference matters

If the application deadline has passed, the ad effectively stops working even if it is still valid. A candidate opens it and closes it again.

More importantly, an ad with a passed deadline loses its place in search engines. Google and other search engines do not show job ads whose deadline has passed, because they are no longer useful. Your ad is therefore not merely less attractive — to new visitors it becomes practically invisible.

The most common mistake

An employer sets the application deadline to fourteen days because that is what an internal decision says, and leaves the ad validity at its default. After two weeks the ad quietly stops working, even though the position is still open.

If the search takes longer than planned, extend both dates, not just one.

What we recommend

  • Make the application deadline realistic. If you are willing to read applications for another month, do not write fourteen days.
  • Validity should equal or exceed the application deadline. Never shorter.
  • If you fill the position earlier, take the ad down. An open ad for a filled position annoys candidates and damages your reputation.

How to change the dates

You can edit both yourself in your dashboard under My jobs.

If the ad has already expired and you would like it back among the active ones, write to zaposlitve@zdravstvena.info. We extend it manually and you do not need to buy a new package — the ad is republished at the same time.

One more note on content

Dates are hygiene, not magic. If an ad receives no applications despite correct dates, the problem is usually the copy. We wrote about that in How to write a job advertisement that attracts the right candidates.
