It is only fair that you check them too — in healthcare, where you often commit for several years and to shift work, this matters even more.

Here is what you can find out before you even send an application.

1. Read the institution’s profile, not just the ad

The ad describes the position; the profile describes the institution: how many people it employs, where exactly it is, its field of work and which other ads are open.

An empty profile is not necessarily a bad sign, but it does mean you will have to ask more yourself. Employers who hire regularly are listed under featured employers.

2. See how often they advertise the same position

Many people overlook this. If the same institution looks for the same profile every few months, there is a reason. Sometimes it is entirely innocent — they are expanding, they have several units, they are covering parental leave. Sometimes it is not.

It is not a reason to skip applying. It is a good interview question: “How many people have held this position in the last two years?”

3. Check the location on a map

This sounds trivial until you work three shifts. With night work and on-call duty, half an hour of driving each way is a completely different matter than a nine-to-five job.

Every institution profile has a map — look at it before you apply, not after.

4. Ask people who work there

Healthcare is a small profession. You almost always know someone who knows someone. That is the most reliable source you will get — more than any presentation.

Ask concrete things: what the shifts are like in practice, how much overtime there is, whether the roster holds, who the manager is and how long they have been there.

5. Check whether they respond

After you send an application, watch how quickly and how they respond. An institution that does not reply for three weeks will probably not behave differently as an employer.

This is not spite — it is data.

6. At the interview, ask what you really want to know

The most useful questions are not about pay but about everyday work:

How many patients or cases per shift is normal?

How is cover for sick leave arranged?

Who makes the roster and how far ahead do you know it?

Is training paid and within working hours?

What has changed in this team over the past year?

The answers tell you more than any polished description in an ad.

7. Trust your instinct, but check it

If something bothers you at the interview, write it down and ask directly. People usually do not make things up — more often they simply do not mention everything, because nobody asked.

Where to start

All open ads are on the Job list page, and tips for searching effectively are in How to search for healthcare jobs on the portal.

At the interview they will check you thoroughly.
